  1. WHY 1 IS ONE AND 2 IS TWO

Christian Boshell began his journey in the electronic music scene in 1993, starting as a solo DJ and event organizer. By 1995, he had ventured into production, honing his craft in the world of electronic music. In 2014, he co-founded Phraktal with DJ Casper, a long-time DJ colleague, marking a new chapter in his creative career. Over time, Phraktal evolved into a solo project, with Christian taking complete control of the artistic direction in 2021. His debut album, Why 1 Is One and 2 Is Two, released in March 2015, blends a mix of sci-fi-inspired electronica, ambient soundscapes, deep house, breaks, tech-house, and techno. The album received global recognition and support, establishing Phraktal as a unique force in the electronic music world.

Phraktal’s distinctive electronic style breaks away from conventions, delivering fresh and danceable tracks that underscore his diverse production prowess. The album unfolds with the cinematic allure of “Now Or Never,” transitioning into the lush depths of deep house with “Mindshapes” and embracing the hypnotic rhythms of Detroit-inspired techno in “Fusion.” The sonic journey continues with the cosmic breaks of “Hanging Around Corners,” the nostalgic allure of “System Error,” and the euphoric title track with Jamez. It explores the razor-sharp edges of techno in “Transfer,” delves into 303 acid-infused realms with “XXII Ely,” with Brian Cody, and concludes with the ambient epic “Resonance.”

This album resulted from over 1000+ hours spent in the studio over two years. Phraktal carefully curated nine tracks of 30 potential candidates to encapsulate his artistic vision and sound best. Inspired by his collaboration with John O’Dwyer (DJ Casper) on an Omnis Recordings remix, Phraktal initially formed as a duo. However, it has since evolved into a solo project as DJ Casper pursued other creative endeavours.

Behind Phraktal’s album is Bakroom, a label committed to serving as a diverse musical platform for established artists and emerging talents. Bakroom made its mark with Turkish DJ/Producer Evren Ulusoy’s deep house hit “In the Name of the Dogs” as its inaugural release. The second release featured Roland Klinkenberg’s remix of Phraktal’s “System Error,” earning a spot on Sam Paganini’s FEB 2015 Mixmag compilation CD. Future releases promise works from luminaries such as Damon Wild, Orlando Voorn, Barry Jamieson, Jamez, Ben Shaw, Astronivo, G-Prod, Blue Amazon, and Stephen Lopkin. Phraktal’s “Why 1 Is One And 2 Is Two” album is an exceptional debut, setting the tone for Bakroom’s musical journey.
